Michael J. Ferreira is a contemporary mosaic artist living on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Michael has always had an interest in art due in part to being surrounded by a large art community on Cape Cod and with members of his family being active in the arts. However, it took some time to find which medium he preferred and felt most comfortable working with. Michael began working in mosaics in 2009. Although each piece he creates is different, a common theme among them all has been Cape Cod or nautical themes and landscapes with a contemporary, abstract twist. Michael likes to incorporate various materials in his projects including stained glass, smalti, tile, mirror, 3D elements, as well as pieces found in nature. Most recently, Michael installed “Pieces of Our Past”, a 4-foot by 8-foot mosaic in the Cobb Astro Park in Hyannis, Massachusetts. In the Spring of 2016, he was selected by the Mid-Cape Cultural Council to complete another public installation in Hyannis, scheduled to be installed in 2018. Michael graduated from Suffolk University in 2013 with a degree in History and Education and he currently teaches on Cape Cod. He is a member of the New England Mosaic Society (NEMS), the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, and the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod.
