Visual Arts: Painting
Moving beyond the moody seascapes and tonal “sky poems†of my forties, I abandoned the image in my fifth decade to paint my experience with nature directly, intuitively. My favorite subjects remain- even in abstraction- skies, creeks, woods, snow shadows, ponds and wild gardens, dreams, rain, salt marshes and roots. Inspired by weather, iphoneography, and music, I use oil stick, cold wax, oil pastel and charcoal, or acrylic paint and polymer gels, on cradled panel, stretched canvas, or gessoed paper to create expressive painterly abstracts. My artistic influences include George Inness, Paul Gauguin, Joan Mitchell, Willem de Kooning and Gerhard Richter.
