Mixed Plate Monotypes with Roxanne Faber Savage

Drypoint is a drawing method characterized by soft, velvety, fine & furry lines; carborundum is a painterly, tonal approach, and styrofoam offers crisp stencil shapes. Roxanne will demonstrate platemaking, plate inking and wiping; both intaglio and relief; building layered images with multiple plates, and registration. Emphasis is on play and exploration to develop wondrous monoprints from mixed printing plates. Roxanne will cover best practice print shop skills including working with wet and dry papers, ink mixing, working at the press and print flattening. A “mini-crit” will be held on the last day of the session. Prepare to spend busy mornings in the new print shop making plates, wiping and printing! All levels of experience welcome. Non-toxic Akua inks will be used for printing.

Roxanne Faber Savage, b. Boston, MA; Lives and works in Connecticut and New York. Roxanne/ “Roxy” is an award winning multidisciplinary artist with printmaking as her primary medium. A dynamic instructor and visual artist, her print works and installations are exhibited widely in solo and juried exhibitions in the Northeast and internationally. Her work is held in private and corporate collections in the US and abroad. She creates inventive print installations, paintings, photographs and mixed media works using graphic imagery to share personal stories and social commentary.

Roxy is co-founder of Artlab CT, an independent experimental print/encaustic studio class solely branded and marketed on Facebook. She is professionally affiliated with The Boston Printmakers, Silvermine Art Guild, Center for Contemporary Printmaking, Manhattan Graphics Center, The Lionheart Gallery, and Heather Gaudio Fine Art.
