Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill has operated a successful summer art school since 1972 and in 2001 began offering year-round classes. New this year is a variety of Culinary and Garden Arts classes to choose from. The center contains a well-equipped printmaking studio and studios for painting, photography, sculpture, writing, jewelry making, ceramic classes and more. Students can select from over 165 classes and events that range from painting frescoes to several en pleine air painting workshops; a genre adopted for decades by Cape Cod artists. The center is nestled in the dunes of Truro and within walking distance to Cape Cod bay, an inspirational and meditative setting that is conducive to a productive and creative learning experience. The talented faculty travel from all over the United States and the student body consists of both working artists and art students who also hail from around the world. Throughout the summer, Castle Hill offers a series of interesting and topical lectures, concerts, poetry readings and art gallery exhibitions by visiting authors and artists. The center is a partner with the Highland Center at the Cape Cod National Seashore and together built the first and only wood-fired kiln on Cape Cod. Castle Hill oversee the management and facilitation of the wood burning kiln that benefits visiting and local ceramic artists.
