You Are What You Wear

October 10 – November 22, 2015 Rice Gallery will present “You Are What You Wear”  an exhibit and sale of wearable art and accessories. Unique works by ten Cape Cod artisans will be on view. A meet-the-artists opening reception is being held on Saturday, October 10th from 3-6pm.

You make a statement wearing one-of-a-kind hand created apparel and accessories. This exhibit boasts up-cycled wearables, woven jackets and ponchos, hand-painted shirts and jeans, dyed scarves, purses, shawls, hats, jewelry, vests, gloves and more. Every piece is stylish and unique and aim to make a lasting impression.

There are a number of extraordinary items on exhibit including several dresses that are remarkably constructed of candy wrappers. The dresses are the creations of fashion designer June Cruz and represent a highly artistic exploration and departure from her commercial fashions. Also noteworthy is an amazing piece that was made by Falmouth artisan Carol Dainty Vincent. She composed the garment entirely out of dryer sheets which she painstakingly stained utilizing a tub with hundreds of tea bags,  the end result a transformation into a masterfully constructed elegant jacket.

Other participating artisans are Jane Parhiala, Gunjan Laborde, Shulamit Bresler, Ali Tyber, Christine Anderson and Cailyn, Kelly & Chris O’Dell Ferguson.
