Throwing clay using a template is an aid in helping to make multiples of a particular form more repeatable and uniform. curved ribs, which are similar to templates are not particularly for repeatability, but rather can be used as an aid to help the potter obtain smooth, pleasing curves on internal or external surfaces, and can be concave or convex.
