Throwing Clay with Templates and Curved Ribs

Throwing Clay with Templates and Curved Ribs

Presented by Falmouth Artists Guild at Falmouth Art Center

Throwing clay using a template is an aid in helping to make multiples of a particular form more repeatable and uniform. curved ribs, which are similar to templates are not particularly for repeatability, but rather can be used as an aid to help the potter obtain smooth, pleasing curves on internal or external surfaces, and can be concave or convex. This workshop will demonstrate technique on how to use templates and curved ribs effectively. Students will use simple shaped templates and curved ribs on the wheel with guidance from the instructor to form cups, tumblers, bowls, or vessel forms. Clay, shaped templates and curved ribs will be provided. The studio will keep the shaped templates for future use by students taking other classes or open studio time. Don't delay! Class is limited to 6 students. Morning workshop will be followed by open studio time for participants to finish work.
