Based in Truro, Catherine finds inspiration in the natural surroundings of the outer Cape. Working both in oil paint and pastels, she works on location and in her studio. “To capture my impressions of a certain space, I will visit it repeatedly to sketch in pastel or oil paints. The light and shadows change rapidly, are finicky, and I work quickly, employing little detail at that time. Once the colors of my en plein air sketch accurately convey the colors and shifting atmosphere, I return to my studio to finish the painting.”
Catherine Haynes has studied art through various programs, including the Worcester Art Museum School, the Art in Provence Program in Provence France, the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown, MA, and Rhode Island School of Design. Her work has been shown throughout New England, including galleries in Provincetown, Newport, and Boston.
Woodruff’s Art Center is a fine art gallery, custom frame shop and retailer of high quality artist materials, located in Mashpee Commons. The business has been serving clients on the Cape and Islands since 1989.
