Photographer-columnist Mark Chester will show, and talk about, images from his book, Roadshow Anthropology, published by UMass Press. This collection of engaging black-and-white photographs captures America from the driver’s seat. Offering fresh perspectives on the United States’ iconic highways, byways, back roads, and small-town main streets, Mark Chester puts America’s unique spirit of innovation on display. With humor and pathos, Roadshow Anthropology explores high and low culture and the world of commerce, architecture, design, advertising, and fashion. Copies of the book are available in the Cape Cod Museum of Art Gift Shop.
Chester carries on the tradition and style of documentary photography when he photographed Charles Kuralt’s essays for his book, Dateline America, in 1978. His subsequent books include No in America, Twosomes, The Bay State: A Multicultural Landscape, Photographs of New Americans.
A Cape Cod resident, Chester contributes the monthly column, See What I Mean? to The Enterprise Newspapers – Falmouth, Mashpee, Bourne, Sandwich culling from his archive spanning fifty years.
