MOVIES on MAIN — Funny, Thoughtful, Heartwarming Movies with a Spotlight on Neurodiversity

Hyannis Film Festival again brings Movies on Main to downtown Hyannis for the weekend of Friday, November 3 through Sunday, November 5— this year with a variety of thoughtful, heartwarming, and often funny films, with many spotlighting autism, neurodiversity, disabilities, or mental health.

Our opening night movie is Champions. Woody Harrelson stars in this hilarious and heartwarming story of a former minor-league basketball coach who, after a series of missteps, is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. He soon realizes that despite his doubts, together, this team can go further than they ever imagined. Directed by Bobby Farrelly. 134 mins.

Our SPECIAL GUEST on Friday is James Day Keith, a 25- year-old adult with Down syndrome who’s a lead actor in the film. Keith is an ambassador for Special Olympics who shares his story with various schools and organizations and he is especially proud of his family’s induction to the Special Olympics Massachusetts Hall of Fame in 2017. He is a member of Best Buddies, one of the organization working with Hyannis Film Festival on the weekend.

Other guests for Q&A sessions during the weekend include comedian-actor Roger Kabler with Being Robin; The Good Nurse author Charles Graeber with Catching The Killer Nurse, and actress Judith Ivey with Women Talking.

Much of the programming for the weekend was arranged with ReelAbilities, the leading group dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories, and artistic expressions of people with disabilities. Movies chosen with support from Best Buddies, Cape Abilities, Community Connections, and Riverview School and in association with ReelAbilities and Cape Cod Film Collaborative.

A weekend PATRON DONOR PASS of $100 (on Evenbrite) lets patrons come and go when they like, all weekend long, and helps Hyannis Film Festival continue to bring distinguished films to downtown Hyannis and mid Cape Cod. Tickets for individual screenings are $15, with no additional fees.
