Order from Chaos: How to create a coherent painting of a complex scene

When faced with a complex scene, it can be difficult to know where to start and how to make all the elements work together. This workshop introduces the students to one of my favorite techniques to deal with this situation. Learn to start with large blocks of color and big shapes and then “carve” into those to bring out representational elements while maintaining control of value and color structure throughout.

The workshop is intended for oil and acrylic painters. Students should bring their painting materials and any references (photos etc) that they might be interested in working with. The instructor will also provide reference materials for students to use.
