Soo Sunny Park: Boundary Conditions

The artist Soo Sunny Park is known for creating monumental, immersive installations that transform their environments into realms of moving light, reflection, and shadow. In Boundary Conditions, she weaves together a metal grid with iridescent Plexiglas that transmits, reflects, and refracts daylight to create an otherworldly installation. Changing light conditions reveal different facets of the sculpture, so that during different times of day it shifts from translucent and clear to colorful and prismatic.

Born in Seoul, Korea, Soo Sunny Park moved to the U.S. at the age of ten and grew up in Marietta, Georgia and Orlando, Florida. Park is a Professor of Studio Art Department and the Parents Distinguished Research Professor in the Humanities (2018-2021) at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, USA. She received a BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio and M.F.A in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Park has been awarded significant grants and residencies world-wide and has been featured in Sculpture Magazine, ArtPremium Magazine, Art in America, Time Magazine, The New York Times, Surface Design Journal, Art New England, Vogue Korea, BuzzFeed, MyModernMet, Huffington Post, DesignBoom, ThisIsColossal, and New Art Examiner.
