ABOUT BUOYED COASTS ART INSTALLATION:
Buoyed Coasts is an outdoor site installation composed of 50 lobster buoys mounted on 12’-19’ poles. The project creates a display of color, light and kinetic motion. BUOYED Coasts is an advocacy art installation to create awareness of the critical state of coastal water quality on the Cape. In 2006, the buoys were painted one of 3 colors to represent water quality and health of local estuaries. A partnership was sought with the Barnstable High School and buoy patterns were painted by a senior art class, ensuring local acceptance. The project brought awareness of the nitrogen run-off problem threatening the Cape’s marine ecology to the 10,000 daily visitors that pass through Hyannis Harbor.
