The Pamet Exhibit

The Pamet Exhibit

Presented by Truro Public Library at Truro Public Library

During August, the Truro Public Library will celebrate the Pamet River through an exhibition of paintings, prints and photographs by local artists. The show will be held in the Library’s Anne H. Brock Community Room and will be dedicated to the memory of Susan Howe, who loved Truro and the Pamet River.

A public opening reception will take place on August 4 from 4-6 pm.

The Truro Library’s exhibit, coordinated by Truro residents Kenneth Hawkey and Meg Clarke, presents creative works by current and past artists that depict and interpret Truro’s treasured Pamet Watershed. As it flows down a wide valley from Ballston Beach to Cape Cod Bay, the Pamet River and its tributaries, the Little Pamet River, Mill Creek, Mill Pond and Eagle Creek, form Truro’s physical and historical center-line.

The works in the exhibition capture the river’s tides, seasons, shifting sands, storms and human intervention.

The exhibit features pieces from public and private collections by late local artists Deane R. Folsom, Sr., Mary Hackett, Cleveland Woodward, Byrne Marston and Nancy Whorf. Current local artists represented include Meg Clarke, Kenneth Hawkey, Elizabeth Lazeren, Sonia Flanders McArdle, Cherie Mittenthal, Andy Richards, Cammie Watson, Thomas A. D. Watson, Karol B. Wyckoff, Andrew W. Young, Charlotte Young, George Young and others.

The Library presentation complements the current Truro Historical Society’s exhibit on Pamet Harbor in the mid-19th century, when it was a major maritime center. That show at the Highland House Museum features a 3-dimensional model of the harbor and informational panels.

The Library and the artists look forward to sharing our perspectives of the Pamet River with you.
