Captain Bangs Hallet House reopens for season

Presented by Historical Society of Old Yarmouth at Captain Bangs Hallet House Museum

Captain Bangs Hallet House reopens June 16

Captain Bangs Hallet House Museum in Yarmouth Port will reopen for the season Friday, June 16. The 19th century Victorian home at 11 Strawberry Lane is the only fully furnished captain’s house on Cape Cod open for docent-led tours. The house holds silk, porcelain and marine artifacts from Yarmouth sea captains’ Far East seafaring days as well as an 18th century kitchen.

A special exhibit all summer will show the work of the Friends of Ancient Cemetery, Yarmouth’s oldest burying ground. Volunteers have cleaned and documented 1,118 gravestones associated with 1,385 individuals in just five years. Visitors will learn how the work has been done along with a display of work of a local stone carver, data from cleaned gravestones and foil impressions made from gravestones.

Tours are offered Friday through Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m., with the last full one starting at 3. Register for the tour at www.HSOY.org/events or pay at the door. General admission is $10. HSOY members, youth under 18, and Yarmouth residents are free. Admission also is free for up to four active military families through Sept. 4 under the Blue Star program.
