Sundays at the Cahoon: Artist Talk with Lynne Francis-Lunn

Presented by Cahoon Museum of American Art at Cahoon Museum of American Art

Join us for a conversation with basketry artist Lynne Francis-Lunn who will discuss her artistic journey, from a young loom weaver to a master basket maker.  Francis-Lunn’s deep love of textiles began at the age of four when she began knitting and sewing with her great-aunt and was encouraged during art classes at Falmouth High School in Falmouth, MA.  Francis-Lunn received a BFA in Textile Design from the University of MA, Dartmouth, and after a career in the museum retail field, Francis-Lunn returned to school and studied Interior Design at the Boston Architectural College. After exploring a multitude of basketry techniques and materials, she settled on sculptural weaving with hand-painted paper.  Francis-Lunn will bring samples of her artwork, provide a demonstration, discuss her influences, and share the challenges and joys of her chosen medium.  She has two new artworks currently on view at the Museum: Life is Complicated and Wondrous Waves.

This program is held in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibition, Interwoven: Contemporary Basketry, and will be hosted by Education and Programs Manager Michael MacMahon.
