Write What You Know: The Art of the Memoir with Ruth Crocker

Presented by Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill at Truro Center for the Arts

Whether you are just beginning to write your story, or are already well on your way in the process, this workshop will help to enrich key skills of telling the story and structuring a book. We will explore published memoirs and your own writing to illustrate and understand techniques of reflection, dialogue, scene, and the use of time.  The publication process will also be described and discussed.

Participants are invited to bring a work in progress to class if they would like to receive individualized feedback from the instructor.

Ruth W. Crocker’s essays have appeared in The Gettysburg Review, Grace Magazine, O-Dark-Thirty, T.A.P.S. Magazine, The Saturday Evening Post and many others. Writing awards include a notable essay in Best American Essays and a Pushcart Prize nomination. Her memoir, Those Who Remain: Remembrance and Reunion After War, received the Benjamin Franklin Award and a Silver Medal from the Military Writers Society of America. She lives in Mystic, Connecticut where she teaches writing and is managing editor at Elm Grove Press.
