Learn the basic tools and concepts of carving wood in this week long course. Participants will come away from the course with a basic understanding of their materials and an appreciation for the craft.
Participants are encouraged to bring a small piece of found wood to carve during the week. Introductory projects will include a bowl, a spoon or a mask. Sanding techniques, the application of wood finishes, and the use of color to enhance sculpture will be discussed.
Donna Dodson is an American sculptor who has been honored with solo shows nationwide for her artwork. In addition, her monumental goddess sculptures have been exhibited internationally. Dodson is a graduate of Wellesley College. Dodson enjoys public speaking, and has been a guest speaker at conferences and panels in museums and universities throughout North America. Donna regularly contributes articles to newspapers, magazines and blogs that demonstrate the economic impact and global reach of the arts sector. She lives in Boston.
