Liquid emulsion is an alternative photographic process that can be applied to a wide variety of surfaces and then developed in the darkroom like a traditional darkroom print.
This workshop will be an introduction to using liquid emulsion as a method of creating photographic images on surfaces including watercolor paper, fabric, and wood using a black and white negative. Students will learn various coating techniques and we’ll discuss the best ways to prepare the surfaces to achieve a painterly effect. Students will process their images in the darkroom, troubleshoot problem issues, and discuss finishing and presentation options for this unique process. Students are welcome to bring negatives or film to be shot and developed for the week.
