This workshop focuses on portrait painting from direct observation. We will conduct class outdoors working from the model under natural light.
Topics covered include setting up and beginning a painting well, simplifying the head and face, determining value and temperature, demystifying skin tones and basic anatomy, as well as how to capture light and build form. Historical and contemporary portrait paintings will be presented, and live demonstrations will be provided. We will work directly from the clothed model each day. Some painting experience is recommended. Oil paint is the preferred medium.
