Beyond Encaustic with Tremain Smith

Beyond Encaustic with Tremain Smith

Presented by Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill at Truro Center for the Arts

Students will examine substrates and grounds, techniques of fusing, creating texture, and transparency and opacity.  Tremain will teach her own particular technique of utilizing transparent wax in painting.  She has been using this process in her work for the last twenty years. Working with a template as a reference point, participants will experiment with a rhythm of drawing, collaging, incising, oil glazing, dry-brushing, branding and surface manipulation to attain their own creative goals.

Tremain Smith has work in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and in corporate and private collections across the country.  She has had solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Scottsdale, Maine, Delaware, Florida and Hawaii. Her work is in Encaustic Art in the Twenty-First Century by Anne Lee & E. Ashley Rooney and The Art of Encaustic Painting by Joanne Mattera and she has taught encaustic at the Penland School of Crafts.
