Introduction to Encaustic Painting with Alla Zbinovsky
Four Fridays, September 29 – October 20, from 10:00 – 12:30 PM.
Member $210 / Non-Member $240; includes $50 materials fee
This workshop will provide an opportunity to explore the art of painting with molten beeswax and pure pigments, for beginners and those with some experience. Participants will learn the exciting, ancient process of creating luminous paintings! We will cover the basics of working with beeswax, color, and a heat gun, using the materials safely and efficiently. Students with more experience with this medium will be able to continue experimenting with individualized instruction. Techniques explored will be fusing, layering, incising, photo embedding, and collaging.
Instructor demos and examples, as well as lots of student painting time, allow for hands-on learning. Students should come to class with 7-8 cradled wood or Masonite panels, preferably smaller sizes like 8×8, 10×10, or 12×12. Students will be working on two panels during each class.
