Joyce Zavorskas-Monotype/New Horizons

Monotypes are paintings transferred to paper once only using a manual press. Students start with a familiar theme and bring it to another level with experimental approaches including additive and subtractive layering of inks, chine collé digital images, and trace monotype, among others. Painterly spontaneous images on smooth acrylic plates with glistening layers of radiant ink create truly unique images with depth, mystery, memory, and delight. An evocative, personal theme emerges with each print session. Demonstrations each day will help to develop individual explorations. Clean-up with baby oil or Gamsol. Beginners to advanced students are welcome. $40. Materials fee includes paper, ink, modifiers, rollers, etc.

The recipient of numerous awards, painter and printmaker Joyce Zavorskas has exhibited widely, including London, Paris, New York, and California. Monotypes may be viewed locally at Left Bank Gallery and Copley Society and Boston Art Inc. Zavorskas has taught printmaking for 45 years at schools, museums and art centers, including Simmons College, Bridgewater State University, Cape Cod Community College, Touchstone, PAAM, and Castle Hill. She holds three university degrees, including an MFA in Painting/Printmaking from MassArt, during which she studied with Michael Mazur, Peik Larsen, and Joel Janowitz in Provincetown. She has served on the executive boards of the Boston Printmakers, Monotype Guild of New England, Printmakers of Cape Cod and the Creative Art Center.
