About The Cape Cod Camino Way Project:
The Cape Cod Camino Way Project seeks to provide opportunities for increasing awareness and advancing change through active participation (walking; conversations) examining social and racial justice issues on Cape Cod and in society at large. By interacting with local history, culture, people and their stories, people can understand racial and social justice issues to provide a springboard for individual and collective action for change. The project has released its first publication Cape Cod Camino Way, Walking with a Purpose, authored by its founder Peggy Jablonski.
Guiding participants through nearly 400 years of European settlement and thousands of years
of Native settlement, Cape Cod Camino Way is the creation of Jablonski after a year spent walking the entirety of Cape Cod—from Bourne to Provincetown, often in the company of friends, family, and colleagues. The outing was a pilgrimage for Jablonski—a serene yet passionate inspiration in the midst of a pandemic. As she explored Cape Cod’s towns and villages along the way, she wrestled with the issues their history presented. “Why didn’t I know this?” was the burning question.
In 2021 Jablonski published a book documenting her adventures and the inspiration for them: Cape Cod Camino Way, Walking with a Purpose (Peggy Jablonski, June 2021). The name is taken from the renowned “Camino” in Europe known in English as the Way of St. James, a network of pilgrims’ ways or pilgrimages leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James at Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. The book is a guide for the creation of a pilgrimage wherever one lives—exploring contemporary issues from a richer understanding of the past.
About the Presenter:
Margaret (Peggy) Jablonski is an organizational consultant and coach who specializes in managing change, leadership development, and building effective organizations. With two decades of consulting experience, she has guided faculty and staff from dozens of colleges to advance change, improve services, and implement transformational programs. Dr. Jablonski served higher education as an administrator and faculty member over four decades, including as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at UNC Chapel Hill, Dean for Campus Life at Brown University, and Dean for Residential and Campus Life at MIT.
Peggy pursued teaching full-time at the graduate level in the School of Education at the University of Massachusetts, serving on the committee to develop a new doctoral curriculum in educational leadership. Her research interests include women and leadership, organizational change, and the spiritual development.
Peggy’s service to the field of education includes four years as the Editor of the NASPA Journal and leadership roles on the Regional and National Boards of the National Association for Student Personnel Administrators. Peggy served as Co-Editor of the NASPA monograph on dealing with campus violence after the Virginia Tech incident. A current member of the International Women’s Forum and the MA chapter, she continues to mentor women and men in higher education across the country.
Dr. Jablonski has presented at many national and international conferences on a variety of topics including leadership, campus safety and crisis response, fundraising, and scholarship in student affairs. A dual citizen of Ireland, Peggy enjoys international travel and learning experiences in a variety of cultures. Locations of recent retreats and educational programs include Morocco, Peru, Costa Rica, England, Ireland, Trinidad, Cuba, and Spain.
