As She Recovers, a story of recovery from addiction, is based on the author’s 25-year career with Emerson House in West Falmouth. The character of She is, in the author’s words, “an amalgamation of women’s stories of recovery. An interesting and intentional part of the storyline is that you do not always learn details of every character’s story, just like the treatment experience. Some women get closer to each other, but they learn something from everyone in the program and every staff member.”
Angela Shepherd is a writer, certified healer, eternal optimist, recovery mentor, entrepreneur, public speaker, and author of the new novel As She Recovers. Her passion for helping people inspired her 25-year career leading a strength-based residential substance use treatment center. She lives on Cape Cod with her family, where she continues to help people connect to their joy and purpose through her energy healing business Shamballa Healing Center located in West Falmouth.
Angela is a person in long-term recovery, with an unwavering belief in all paths to healing. Her resilience and commitment to her personal growth inspires her to seek higher ways to engage individuals in stepping into their own potential. Angela supports anyone looking for more – more connection, purpose, joy, gratitude, and change. She is currently working on the sequel to As She Recovers.
Have you ever been brought to your knees by life, unsure of how to get up, again?
Many of us turn to something to distract or numb from the inevitable work of……change.
Addiction is a destructive accelerant, often fueled by trauma, mental health, loss, and isolation.
Substances are a symptom of a deeper longing to connect.
As She Recovers is the story of the acceptance, honesty, courage, of rising up, together.
Something is different here, in this healing house where true connections are made; connection to self, genuine connections to others, spiritual connections, and the restorative Power of Unity.
