Falmouth Museums on the Green is proud to present a performance by George Baker portraying President John Adams in “My Wife Abigail Adams, the First Modern American Woman,” on Friday, February 24 at 2 P.M. at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 91 West Main Street. The program is part of a special lecture series titled, “Why Didn’t I Know This? Stories of Women’s History,” made possible in part by a grant from Mass Humanities.
Admission $10; Tickets are available in advance at museumsonthegreen.org or at the door. Light refreshments available.
Dressed in period clothing, President Adams will speak about his wife with admiration, humor, and affection, detailing how she defied the sexist conventions of her time, and with her financial skills and insights made the Adams family prosperous. She helped found the new nation and raised their son, John Quincy Adams, to become President. This program is full of many unknown details of Abigail’s life, including the story of their romance, challenges, trials and accomplishments, presenting them ordinary people living in extraordinary times.
Mr. Baker is a graduate of Columbia College and Columbia Law School. He practices law in New Canaan, Connecticut. In 2008, he created a one-man show to represent the humor and patriotism of President John Adams. Since then, his performances have taken place across the United States at venues large and small.
