Independent Bookstore Day 2024 at Titcomb's Bookshop

Presented by Titcomb's Bookshop at Titcomb's Bookshop

Titcomb’s Bookshop is happy to announce their participation in the 11th Anniversary of Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday April 27th, 2024. This year, Titcomb’s Bookshop will celebrate with games, prizes, and activities for all ages from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday, April 27th. Exclusive items will be for sale and as giveaways, from special magnets to activity books, baby onesies, and more. There will be a raffle prize and Thornton W. Burgess inspired games and activities for children such as a scavenger hunt and a visit from much loved storybook character, Peter Cottontail.

Rae Titcomb, manager of Titcomb’s Bookshop and fourth generation bookseller, says: "Bookselling is a family tradition for me. Through this tradition I've learned the importance of being active in my community and the importance of reading. Providing a welcoming space where people can connect and share their passion for books and literacy is our purpose. I'm so grateful to our community, near and far, for recognizing that and helping us thrive despite so many odds. I've discovered that the book world is made of families, from booksellers to publishers to customers to authors. No blood relation required."

On Independent Bookstore Day, Titcomb’s is celebrating beloved Sandwich children’s author and naturalist Thornton W. Burgess with themed activities for children and families. Meet Peter Cottontail and take a picture with him at our Burgess photo booth from 10:30am to 12:00pm. All day, children of all ages can participate in a Burgess character scavenger hunt at the bookshop, to win fun prizes. There will also be a craft station with a Burgess-themed craft that you can take home. In celebration of Thornton W. Burgess’ 150th birthday, there are events around the Town of Sandwich throughout the year (click HERE for more details).

Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to enter to win the Titcomb’s Independent Bookstore Day Raffle and special prizes. One lucky winner will win a basket of Titcomb’s goodies, Smith Family Popcorn, Indie Bookstore Day exclusive gifts, and a Titcomb’s gift card. There are 3 ways to get raffle tickets for this grand prize: for adults, come play Bookstore Bingo, kids can enter by participating in the scavenger hunt, and new customers can enter if you join Titcomb’s Frequent Buyer Club on April 27th. The winner of the raffle will be contacted the following week.

Visitors will have a chance to play literary “Chalkboard Trivia.” Get the trivia question on the chalkboard right and win a bag of special Indie Bookstore Day Smith Family Popcorn. *While supplies last.

Come visit Titcomb’s newly refurbished Literary Rock Garden. Write the name of your favorite book on a rock and add it to the literary rock garden.

Titcomb’s is excited to offer customers a Blind Date with a Book. Pick out a mystery book covered in brown paper that has some clues about the genre and age range written on them. Visitors may leave a donation for the Sandwich Food Pantry.

Indie bookstores on the Cape & Islands are celebrating the launch of the 2024 Cape & Islands Bookstore Trail on Independent Bookstore Day. The bookstore trail is a fun, bookish way to explore the Cape & Islands, encouraging folks to visit the 20+ indie bookstores that span the 15 towns on the Cape and the Islands. Each time you visit a bookstore, you will get a stamp on your map, and will be one step closer to the grand prize. Starting on April 27th, folks may pick up a map for the season and learn about this year’s prizes for participants. For more information about the trail, visit capeandislandsbookstoretrail.com

ABOUT INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE DAY

Independent Bookstore Day (Indie Bookstore Day) was established in 2013 to promote, celebrate, and highlight the value of the Independent bookstore community. The day has been observed on the last Saturday of April every year since 2013. This year there are over 900 stores participating across the country.

Independent Bookstore Day is organized by the American Booksellers Association, a national not-for-profit trade organization, that works with booksellers and industry partners to ensure the success and profitability of independently owned book retailers, and to assist in expanding the community of the book.
