Noted Smithsonian lecturer and George Gershwin expert, Robert Wyatt will present a program about famed trumpeter Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong. West Falmouth Library, Saturday, April 20 at 4 pm.
Louis Armstrong nicknamed “Satchmo,” “Pops” and, later, “Ambassador Satch,” was born on August 4, 1901, in New Orleans, Louisiana. An all-star virtuoso, he came to prominence in the 1920s, influencing countless musicians with both his daring trumpet style and unique vocals. Mr. Wyatt’s lecture will illuminate Armstrong’s story through lecture, archival recordings, and documentary videos.
