The opening reception for Wish You Were Here: Postcards from the Past will be held on Friday, Oct. 6, from 4 to 6 PM at the Falmouth Historical Society’s Museum on the Green (55 Palmer Ave. Falmouth, MA. 02540).
Calliope Poetry will host an opening reception for its postcard project, Wish You Were Here: Postcards from the Past, on Friday October 6, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Falmouth Historical Society's Museums on the Green, 55 Palmer Avenue, Falmouth. The exhibition will be on display until May 10, 2024.
The exhibition includes modern-day responses from 20 writers and 11 visual artists to the Falmouth Public Library's extensive collection of historical postcards of all of the villages of Falmouth. Those responses took various forms—memories of local landmarks, creative stories inspired by the messages on the backs of the cards, and photos of how the cards' images look today. "These postcards serve as our very own time machines, capturing the spirit of the past and bringing the people who wrote them alive again, with all their unique personalities, quirks, and humor, says Alice Kociemba, Calliope Poetry's founding director. The project was funded, in part, by a grant from the Falmouth Cultural Council, the local agency of the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
