REFINED FIGURES: The Sculpture of Gwen Marcus

Gwen Marcus is one of the foremost figurative sculptors in the United States. Her works can be seen in museums and exclusive private and public collections worldwide. Critics have praised Marcus for her remarkable sensitivity and deep understanding of the human form. Each of her sculptures embodies a powerful execution and attention to detail, showcasing her commitment to excellence and uncompromising quality.

What truly distinguishes Marcus's work is her exceptional ability to capture both the essence of movement and the depth of emotions in her subjects. Each of her sculptures tells a unique story, drawing viewers into their captivating narratives.

Throughout her long career, Marcus has received numerous honors and prestigious commissions, including the highly regarded Gold Medal of Honor from Allied Artists of America. Additionally, she has received Gold Medals of Honor from Audubon Artists (twice), The American Artist Professional League (five times), and the Hudson Valley Art Association. Marcus is the recipient of  the Centennial Medal of Honor, along with two Gold Medal of Honor recognitions from The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, an affiliation of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Marcus is widely traveled and has exhibited her work internationally, sharing her insights through lectures and workshops. She is a Fellow and has served on the board of directors of the National Sculpture Society. She continues to contribute to the growth and development of the artistic community, both locally and throughout the world.

This exhibition features 22 of Gwen's smaller sculptures and 2 larger than life pieces in the gallery. Her powerful sculpture, Tempest can be seen outside, in front of the Museum.
