"In Between"

Presented by Falmouth Community Television at The Gallery at FCTV

Katie Voyt is an abstract mixed media artist living and painting out of her home studio in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She got her BA in Liberal Arts from Moscow State University in Moscow, Russia in 2006. In 2009, she studied design and took drawing courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, NY. In 2022, Katie participated in an online Painting and Mentoring Course with Liliya Kovalevskaya at St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, Russia.

Katie creates abstract paintings evoking personal experiences and impressions. In her paintings, she researches nature and relationships using organic shapes, transparency, layered washes, and a variety of textures and materials (acrylics, oil pastels, graphite, and markers on canvas). Instead of the rectangular shape of the traditional painting and historical reference to a window, which would place the viewer looking outside into the world, Katie wants the viewer to be centered on what is important to them and to look inside themselves. She lets her observations, thoughts, and memories be unique in shape (literally and metaphorically), thus initiating a dialogue with the viewer and the architectural space.

“Organic shapes bring to mind the concept of nature, which is the most consistent inspiration in my art,” says Katie. “The shapes that we see in nature are almost never created with strict angles or lines. While other forms look artificial and constructed, irregular shapes evoke a sense of freedom and naturalness.”

Katie has shown her work in Chatham, Yarmouth, Worcester, and Vienna, Austria. She is a member of ArtsWorcester and the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod.

Valeria Ocean is a contemporary marine artist. She was born in Russia and is currently based in Antalya, Turkey. Her local friend, artist Katie Voyt, is representing her and her work here in the U.S.

Valeria participated in many different exhibitions in Turkey. The most known are Ankara Art Fair 2023, 7th International Art Exhibition of Alanya, Culture Center of Alanya, 2022, 1st CIS’ countries Art Exhibition of Antalya at Konyaalti Belediyesi, 2022. She also took part in the art exhibition Just Summer on My Mind in Miami, FLA in April 2023.

Ms. Ocean is known for her water landscapes, inspired by the power and impermanence of elements. With every brushstroke and every color, Valeria conveys powerful energy and a living soul in each of her works. She seeks to bring a sense of joy and serenity to the world.

“No matter where I live and work,” Valeria says,” I find inspiration in the beauty of the surrounding world, and this boundless inspiration helps me create works of art that I hope will make viewers experience unforgettable emotions.” Valeria’s artworks are featured in private collections in the USA, UK, Spain, Turkey, Russia, and Germany.
