Sandwich Glass Museum Special Exhibit: A Pinch of Salt

Presented by Sandwich Glass Museum & Historical Society at Sandwich Glass Museum

Through the ages,  Salt was used for food preservation and a commodity to trade. Just as there were spice and silk routes, salt routes developed as important networks for commerce and cultural exchange. Salt was coveted, hoarded, searched for, traded for, and fought over.

It is then not surprising that “Salts”, small vessels used to contain this valuable mineral, were creatively fashioned and cherished items of daily use at the dining table well into the 20th century.

The Sandwich Glass Museum is pleased to present “Pinch of Salt”, an exhibition through which Guest Curator Maria Martell shares her extensive collection of vintage “Salts”, many made by the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company here in Sandwich, MA.
