Guided, accessible walks in the village of Hyannis, exploring our diverse culture.
What: Starting at the JFK Hyannis Museum, Peggy Jablonski, our guide and narrator, will lead accessible walks for the general public in the village of Hyannis. Keying off the visual images and symbols used in public works of art and several historic sites, we delve into our diverse local history. Over the course of the one-mile walk, we discover stories of immigration, the role of women in history, the Bill of Rights today, the Native American story, our environment, the local economy, and many aspects of social identity. The walk is a way to learn and help us navigate current social justice issues.
How is the walk accessible? The walk script, and questions posed by the guide are available in a written handout. The route includes ADA compliant sidewalks, street crossings, stops for rest in shade or air-conditioned buildings. Venues with second floor amenities have elevators. Restroom/toilet facilities are available.
