Dearly Departed: The Art of Mourning Past & Present

Dearly Departed: The Art of Mourning Past & Present

Presented by Falmouth Art Center at Falmouth Art Center

Mourning Art, made to commemorate loved ones who have passed away, originated after the death of George Washington in 1799. Bringing the art form to the present day, Falmouth Art Center will present the April exhibit, “Dearly Departed: The Art of Mourning Past & Present” from March 31 - April 24.

The exhibit is in collaboration with the Falmouth Historical Society, which will loan historic examples of mourning art to the show. The exhibit also includes modern day interpretations of mourning art made by 15 local artists working in a variety of mediums, including painting, ceramics, fiber arts, printmaking, fine art photography, mixed media, glass and wood.

The Falmouth Art Center located at 137 Gifford Street in Falmouth is free and open to the public daily, Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm; Saturday 10am to 2pm and Sunday 1 to 4pm. For more information, go to FalmouthArt.org or call 508-540-3304.
