Award-winning movie WILD ROSE on Main Street in Hyannis.

Presented by Hyannis Film Festival at The Federated Church of Hyannis— Fellowship Hall

The stirring, award-winning movie Wild Rose (2018), the story of a Scottish woman’s passion for country music, is the second film this month from the Hyannis Film Festival late winter series Movies on Main Street. This month’s theme is “Gems of Passion and Obsession.” This movie should be a hit with country music fans and will be shown the day after International Women’s Day, during Women’s History Month.

Wild Rose screens at 7 pm Thursday, March 9, in Friendship Hall at the Federated Church, on Main Street in the Historic East End of Hyannis. Longtime Cape Cod Times film critic Tim Miller joins this week’s talkback after the movie. Advance tickets are $12 for each film or $50 for the series, with advance purchase of both ticket levels online @ hyannisfilmfestival.eventbrite.com, or at the door. Students 18 and under are free with an ID. Time for a moderated discussion follows each showing.

In Wild Rose, Jessie Buckley— she’s among the cast of this year’s Oscar-nominated Women Talking—is impressive as a wannabe country music singer experiencing honky-tonk heartache. Her electrifying performance portrays her as a young Scottish woman and mother finding her way after a term in prison. The film was voted best of the year in Scotland and won other awards. Directed by Tom Harper. Rated R

Fellowship Hall at Federated Church is a separate building at the rear east side of the church, on Willow Street across from the dry cleaners and former bus station. Or enter through the gated pathway from Main Street in front of the church. Limited parking is available on Willow, along Main Street, or behind the former TDI Bank building across from the church. Doors open about 6:30 pm.
