The story of the first woman to fight in the American Revolution will be presented at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod March 12 at 2 p.m.
Deborah Sampson, Revolutionary War hero
Deborah Sampson was the first woman to enlist, fight in and be honorably discharged from the military during the American Revolution. Her life will be chronicled in an immersive living history experience, “A Revolution of Her Own,” on March 12 at 2 p.m. at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod with co-sponsor, the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth.
Sampson, disguised herself as a man and enlisted in the 4th Massachusetts Regiment of the Continental Army as “Robert Shurtlieff.” Her arduous upbringing as an indentured servant, self-education and years of active combat will be portrayed by Judith Kalaora, founder and artistic director of History At Play. Kalaora is a professional educator, award-winning playwright and living historian.
