This course will introduce you to the basics of the Procreate app and show you how to use Procreate along with iPhoto to enhance your painting process and improve outcomes, as well as introduce ways to create works entirely on the iPad by painting, drawing and collage.

Whether you paint in oils, acrylics, or water color, you can improve your ability to compose and design your paintings by manipulating photographic and other source and reference materials in iPhoto and Procreate before and during the painting process. Using your own reference materials, analyze focal points, composition, leading lines, values and color. You will learn to move and rescale elements of the scene to enhance composition before you begin to paint. And we use these tools during the painting process to examine and explore options as the paintings go forward. If time permits, we will extend our exploration to include making entire art works directly in Procreate and even touch on animation.

Procreate is an app that runs only on Apple iPad. An iPad and the Procreate app are required for this class. It is also strongly suggested that you have a stylus, preferably an Apple Pencil, to work on your iPad. You will need some way to get visual material into your iPad. The iPad itself will take photos, or they can be transferred from a smart phone or digital camera.

In addition to the iPad, stylus and app, students should bring reference material for paintings they would like to make, or are in the process of painting. For those in process, bring the painting too.
