“The Art of Songwriting” is a solo concert by singer, songwriter, and pianist; Dawna Hammers.
Presented by the Cultural Center of Cape Cod on Saturday, March 4, at 7:30pm.
“The Art of Songwriting” is a solo concert by singer, songwriter, and pianist; Dawna Hammers. Like her name, “Hammers” is excited to hit the keys of the grand piano and sing a wide variety of favorite songs from songwriters from the Jazz, Blues, and Swing eras like Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Thelonious Monk. Hammers learned many of these songs from her father, the late saxophone and clarinetist Johnny Hammers, who played all around the Cape during the ‘70s and ‘80s. Hammers will also perform songs by songwriters from the ‘60s and ‘70s, such as James Taylor, Carole King, Carley Simon, Van Morrison, The Beatles, Aerosmith and, of course, Joni Mitchell, who Hammers is famous for covering in her popular tribute show; Back to the Garden! Lastly she will feature some of her well-crafted and inspiring original ballads, bosses, and blues. Visit the Cultural Center’s website for information on their COVID policy.
