Historical Society of Old Yarmouth presents Barnstable’s Mad Jack Percival and the Mutiny on the Whaleship “Globe” with Greg Williams.
Presented by the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth on Sunday, February 26, at 2pm.
When the Nantucket whaleship "Globe" left Martha's Vineyard for the Pacific, one whaleman harbored dreams of becoming king of his own South Sea Island. That fantasy ignited what turned out to be the bloodiest whaleship mutiny in American History. Barnstable's "Mad Jack" Percival, in only one chapter of his fabled life - years before he sailed the USS Constitution around the world - was sent to learn what had happened and to follow through accordingly. Captain John Percival was controversial, irritable, short tempered, and contentious, but also courageous, warm-hearted, and a highly skilled seaman. The Honorable Greg Williams is a retired judge and popular speaker around Cape Cod.
Admission is $10. To register, visit https://www.hsoy.org/events or pay at door. The Cultural Center of Cape Cod is located at 307 Old Main Street in South Yarmouth.
