"Sustaining Our Seas" Public Perception of Seafood Forum

Presented by Cape Cod Museum of Natural History at Cape Cod Museum of Natural History

What influences the way you purchase seafood?

Join the conversation and share your perspectives with others. New England is renowned for its seafood; in fact, lobster bakes, cod fritters, and New England style clam chowder are an integral part of the region’s coastal culture.

How do you go about purchasing the seafood you buy?

Do you base your preferences on sustainable fishing, cost, carbon footprint, where it’s caught or raised, or a combination of all these factors? We’ve gathered a group of scientists, fishers, government officials, and other stakeholders who are interested in balancing seafood consumption with an ever- changing marine ecosystem—and they want to hear from you.

Discuss the many different factors that might go into your seafood purchasing decisions. Then, you will receive a series of “mystery” seafood items to purchase (or not), based on those factors.

Snacks will be provided. Each participant will receive a $50 gift card at the event conclusion. Masks are encouraged but optional. Participants do not need any background knowledge of the topic to participate.

Support for this event is provided by Bloomberg Philanthropies.
