Pastel Painting: Still Life and Interiors-Painting the familiar with Betsy Payne Cook

Pastel Painting: Still Life and Interiors-Painting the familiar with Betsy Payne Cook

Presented by Cultural Center of Cape Cod at Cultural Center of Cape Cod

Presented by the Cultural Center of Cape Cod on five Tuesdays, beginning January 10, from 2-4pm. Use your favorite indoor spaces as a muse for painting this winter season.

Instructor will review the essentials and high points of composition and arrangements of still life from previous sessions. Using everyday settings such as home, office, shop, restaurant or museum, participants will look at qualities in natural arrangements that will make good starts for painting. There will be an option to continue with still life in natural groupings of objects and/or to encompass a larger area and paint an interior scene.  Students will be using grey toned paper and either black & white charcoal pencils or China wax markers for value and notan studies. Participants can work from their own photos, and the instructor will have some for use as a resource.

Lessons will promote drawing and perspective, use of value for impact, and color palette options. Class will also look at both traditional and contemporary techniques for their paintings. Students will have options to use various pastel papers & supports for their theme, incorporating multi-media if desired.  Tips from previous sessions will be revisited.

In-person at the Cultural Center or the option of Zoom for those that can’t attend in-person or if weather is inclement. $200/$175 for members.  Register at www.cultural-center.org or call 508-394-7100. The Cultural Center is located at 307 Old Main Street in South Yarmouth.
