Cape Cod Chorale performs its very popular Christmas concerts on Saturday, December 10 at 7pm, and Sunday, December 11 at 4pm, both at First Church, 136 Main St., Sandwich. Conducted by Artistic Director, Danica A. Buckley, accompanied by CCC pianist Cathy Bonnett, Andromeda Brass, and Michael Dunford, percussion.

In 2019, Cape Cod Chorale performed sold-out concerts with Andromeda Brass and over 65 voices in the chorus. Chorus and audience loved the program, and then we shut down in Spring of 2020. Determined to return to normal with a big concert with all the trimmings, we are back at First Church in Sandwich, with brass, piano, and timpani! We are so excited!

The audience is invited to sing along on carols and seasonal songs, and for our special tradition of "Pop-Up Hallelujah!", we invite members of the audience to "the stage" to sing this beloved chorus from Handel's Messiah. We provide the music, and we know some of you dedicated Handel fans even bring your own score or sing it from memory.

We begin this vibrant, joyful, and relaxing program with a fantastic, energetic piece called "Ring the Bells", by contemporary African American composer and conductor, Dr. Rosephanye Powell. We perform another of hers called "Christmas Memories", which is love song, slow jazz with a gospel flare. In addition, we will sing the hauntingly beautiful "The Work of Christmas", by Howard Thurman, an important civil rights activist who served as Dean of Marsh Chapel at Boston University from 1953-1965.

Artistic Director Danica A. Buckley notes, "To honor our local Brazilian community, we are, for the first time, singing a beautiful Brazilian ca in Portuguese, coached by tenor member and soloist from Mashpee (and formerly Brazil), José Carneiro. The piece is called "O Anjo da Paz" (Angel of Peace). We are so thrilled to be learning Portuguese and to bring this piece to the community."

We also perform two Hanukah pieces, "Maoz Tzur" (Strong Rock) and "O Ir Kleyne Likhtelekh" (O you little candles). We sing those in Hebrew and Yiddish.
