Pastel Painting: Still Life to Interiors with Betsy Payne Cook

Pastel Painting: Still Life to Interiors with Betsy Payne Cook

Presented by Cultural Center of Cape Cod at Cultural Center of Cape Cod

Presented by the Cultural Center of Cape Cod on four Tuesdays beginning November 8, from 2-4:30 pm.

In-person at the Cultural Center or the option of Zoom for those that can’t attend in-person, or if weather is inclement. Still life: the depiction of inanimate objects for the sake of their qualities of form, color, texture, and composition. Still life to setting the scene in an interior.  We will use traditional still life to review the fundamentals of design. Students will have the opportunity to work from their own still life and/or a class still life.  If creating your own, please have at least 5 tabletop items, in varying heights and sizes that you would like to work from to create a series of thumbnail sketches. We will be using grey toned paper and either black & white charcoal pencils or china wax markers for value and notan studies.

After the first class, students can choose to continue with a traditional still life set-up or expand to paint interior designs that incorporate the still life in a natural setting within their home. Lessons will promote drawing and perspective, use of value for impact, and color palettes. We will also look at both traditional and contemporary techniques for your paintings.  Students will have options to use various pastel papers and supports, incorporating multi-media if desired.  Tips from previous sessions will be revisited.
