Carrie Fradkin is a mosaicist, pastel, and encaustic painter, teacher, and amateur photographer with a degree in fine art and education from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, and a background in graphic design. She resumed art-making in 2003 after raising two daughters. Prior to her recent return to Cape Cod, she lived for 25 years in Vermont and New Hampshire. Of her work, she says, “My imagery is abstract but comes from the living flora, fauna, and architecture that surround me. I work in mosaics, pastels, encaustics, collage, and oil/acrylic painting - whatever medium will get me where I want and hope to go with the art.”

Carrie’s mosaic and pastel works have been exhibited nationally and in private collections. In the decorative arena, her commissions have included kitchen backsplashes, table tops, and wall mosaics. She has studied with master mosaicists in England and the U.S., and her continuing studies include Modern Expressions 3-D with Verdiano Marzi and workshops with Kelly Knickerbocker and Carol Shelkin at Mosaic Oasis, Arlington, MA. Carrie is a founding member of NEMS, New England Mosaic Society and in 2017 won Best of Show in their Member Exhibition.

Judi Goudreau was brought up in a creative home where her mom always had Judi and her siblings crafting, drawing, and observing the natural world. Judi received a degree in Illustration from RISD, leaning heavily towards painting and sculpture. She finds an inspirational treasure trove in Woods Hole. Judi says, “I have noticed that from Quisset Harbor to Nobska Lighthouse alone there is countless potential for paintings. I work from photos in my studio where I paint with oils on birch panels and sculpt in stoneware clay. I find that my sensitivity to color and form has vastly improved over the past 17 years here in Woods Hole. I enjoy capturing the look of water rippling in the shadows of boats, as well as the expressiveness in the positioning of each hand-formed animal figure.”

Susan Nowogrodzki grew up in NYC, the first generation of immigrants who survived the Holocaust. This fact of her birth has determined so much of how she approaches the making of art, and what is important and essential. After receiving a BA in painting she moved to Ithaca, NY where she lived in a couple of communes and had several art-related jobs (including Cornell Daily Sun cartoonist). After three years, she moved to Eugene, OR to enroll in a fifth-year BFA program in Painting at the University of Oregon. During that year she became fascinated with the art of clay and was accepted into the MFA program in ceramics. Susan completed the MFA program and moved to Madison, WI where she was Artist-in-Residence at the Memorial Union Art Center, teaching all the ceramics classes and learning the business of art. She traveled to craft fairs, wholesaling her work to galleries around the country.

In 2011 Susan was invited to Gangjin, Korea to participate in an international exhibition at the Celedon Festival. Touring the potteries of Korea was a life-changing experience that continues to influence her work.  “Living in Woods Hole has allowed me the pleasure of being near the ocean,” says Susan, “coming to know the creatures, weather, landscape, and people of this small and precious bit of land. I am grateful every day for this privilege.”
