ABOUT THE BOOK

Meet Sammy Spat, the oyster. He's not just any oyster. He's the one in a million. Others know it. But he doesn't. About to give up, Sammy learns a powerful secret that propels him to ride the tide out to the deeper waters of the Bay hoping things will be better. They're not. A capture, a rescue, a rumble, dive-bombing missile birds and giant crabs await. Sammy is forced to face his foes and decide whether to survive or thrive, and be the legendary super-hero he truly is. This rollicking ocean adventure tale is a lively read for both the young and not so young. Get to know Sammy Spat. You'll see he's quite the fellow. He's one in a million!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kahren Dowcett lives on Cape Cod, Sammy Spat’s birthplace, and home to some of the best oysters anywhere.  She holds a degree in Theatre Design & Production from Southern Illinois University and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Minnesota State University. Her love for the environment is undeniable.  And creating ways to make the invisible visible drives her.  Layered with themes that inspired even an oyster to become a legend in its own time, Ms. Dowcett’s writing educates while it entertains, and in the end makes the reader a little wiser, a smidge stronger, and a bit smarter.

Amplifying matters that matter has animated not only her writing, but also her teaching and community betterment work, which has brought her recognition by the former Governor of Illinois among other leaders. She has written and staged plays using giant puppets for both schools and general audiences, like the Missa Gaia (Earth Mass) performed with the Chatham Chorale and members of the Paul Winter Consort.  When not conjuring up imagery or characters and their mis-adventures, she enjoys her children and grandchildren, and tends to her chickens, golden retriever, a 1730 antique home, while plotting her next travel adventure, fuel for a future edutaining tale. For Ms. Dowcett, the “world is her oyster” not so much for the taking, but for the sharing and caring. www.sammyspat.com
