This class is an exploration of surface design techniques for clay work.
Presented by the Cultural Center of Cape Cod on six Thursdays, beginning on July 21, from 9:30 am-12 pm.
This class is an exploration of surface design techniques for clay work. Whether you are a Hand Builder or Wheel Thrower, there are many exciting techniques for adding color and texture to your work. Our focus will be learning about and experimenting with several surface design methods, both traditional and nontraditional. These include sgraffito, mishima, water etching, slip trailing, making stamps, stenciling and carving.
Students do not need to have drawing skills. Ways of transferring imagery will be covered as well. Students do need to have a basic knowledge of working with clay. We will be making simple forms on which to try out the surface treatments. All materials are included.
