James Webb Space Telescope First Images

James Webb Space Telescope First Images

Presented by Cape Cod Museum of Natural History at Cape Cod Museum of Natural History

Selected by NASA as one of the host facilities around the United States, we will first explore the JWST and how it will revolutionize our understanding of the Universe with guest speaker Charles Law, fifth year PHD student and NSF Graduate Research Fellow at Harvard University and the Center for Astrophysics. Then, view the first images taken of the farthest reaches of space and watch the live stream of an expert NASA panel discuss the results.

Webb, an international partnership with the European and Canadian Space Agencies, launched on December 25, 2021, from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. After unfolding into its final form in space and successfully reaching its destination 1 million miles from Earth, the observatory is completing the months-long process of preparing for science operations. Webb will explore every phase of cosmic history – from within the solar system to the most distant observable galaxies in the early universe, and everything in between.
