OCTOBER 1 & 2: Chris Archer: Exercising a Creative Voice with the Wheel

OCTOBER 1 & 2: Chris Archer: Exercising a Creative Voice with the Wheel

Presented by Meetinghouse Clay Center at Meetinghouse Clay Center

In day one of this two day workshop, New Hampshire artist and educator, Chris Archer, will lead a demonstration-based day focused on finding one’s creative voice in the process of designing and making on the wheel.   Chris will share his methodology of developing ideas through creative play exercises and strategies to create thoughtful, complex, and engaging forms.  Day one is a great option if you are limited on time, or have never had the opportunity to learn in a workshop format before. The ideas covered in day one can be applied to handbuilt work as well as wheel thrown work.

Day two of this workshop will be limited to ten participants, and students will get to practice and put into action the material from day 1 under Chris’s guidance and direction. Pushing beyond the familiar, students will learn and try various advanced throwing and altering techniques paired with a design approach in which various components of material and process inform each other more effectively and pave the way for more personal and mature work. You should be able to center, and throw a cylinder comfortably to get the most out of day 2. Work created in day two will be bisque fired to be picked up at a later date.
