Native American life before the Pilgrims will be the focus of a summer program for children at the Native wetu in Yarmouth Port.
Native American Family Program
Families will learn about Native American life on Cape Cod before the Pilgrims in a hands-on summer program led by Marcus Hendricks of the Nipmuc-Wampanoag community. Programs will be on selected Tuesdays and Thursdays from late June to early August at a reconstructed wetu at the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth off Route 6A in Yarmouth Port.
Programs will include crafts, a guided trail walk, Native artifacts, tribal music and storytelling.
The programs are for children ages 8-10, grades 3 and 4, and parents must accompany them. Sessions limited to 15 children. Tuesday dates are June 21, July 5 and 19 and Aug. 2. Thursdays are June 23, July and 21 and Aug. 4. Cost is $15 per child.
