Join us on Saturday, July 2, for Scrimshaw Discovery Day! From 10:00-3:00, enjoy gallery talks with our staff and learn about some of the items sailors aboard whaling ships made using the teeth of sperm whales. Get a close-up look at some of the pieces from the museum’s preeminent Elizabeth H. and William Graham Scrimshaw Collection. Hear how scrimshaw was made, and learn about life on a whaling ship. Kids’ crafts 10:00-2:00. From 3:00-4:00, hear from Brian Sharp of the Marine Mammal Rescue Program at the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) about current efforts to save endangered whales.
